The Lumen Dei Kumbh Mela Photo Tour & Workshop will take you on a unique photographic journey that offers some once in a lifetime moments.
From Delhi to Varanasi and then to the world’s largest gathering of people at the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, lead photographers Matt Brandon and Gavin Gough will help you photograph people and places you’ve only seen in your imagination.
The tour gets underway in Delhi where you will have the chance to shoot the unique chaos, color, and charm of Old Delhi. The journey then takes you to Varanasi, one of the oldest cities in the world situated on the banks of the Ganges River. Here you’ll be able to stroll along the ghats by the river, enjoy a boat trip on the Ganges, and explore the labyrinth old city of Varanasi.
After Delhi and Varanasi comes an extraordinary experience. The Kumbh Mela is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage occurring 4 times every 12 years rotating among 4 different locations. It previously has set the record for the largest gathering of people in the world at over 60 million. A religious and cultural festival of this intensity and magnitude will provide you with abundant opportunities to grow your photographic vision.
In 2010 the Kumbh Mela will be held in Haridwar, about 220km north of Delhi. A main activity by the millions of pilgrims attending the festival is the ritual bathing in the Ganges River. As part of the tour’s itinerary for the Kumbh Mela, we’ll be there to photograph one of the most auspicious bathing days on April 14th.
Come with us in April 2010 for an unforgettable look at Delhi, Varanasi, and the Kumbh Mela.
